Future Home Thoughts

I can’t wait to have my own home. My own space, my own visions. I believe the home should be full of positive energy to keep your mind and body healthy. “Home is where you should feel loved, appreciated, and safe.” (Tracey Taylor). Home is where I want to feel safe, something I’ve not always had the pleasure of feeling.

Location & Landscape

I’m not very state specific quite yet. Anywhere from Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, etc. I just know I want to be in the country surrounded by a forest, not too far from town. A long winding driveway through tall trees, a fence surrounding the property. The driveway leading to my house and the barn not too far. The forest behind my home filled with wildlife I am able to visit in my spare time. I envision living on a couple acres of land, enough room for a barn, room for livestock, my house, back yard, and pond. Here is a blueprint I sketched up to roughly see where everything would be located!

House

My vision for my house is sort of specific. I want a Victorian style brick farmhouse with a large front porch. I’m not quite sure what color I’d want the brick whether the original brick or it painted. But I definitely want whites and blacks incorporated. If I couldn't have my very specific type of house I would gladly settle for any farmhouse with my style of front porch.

Home Sweet Home

When you walk up my gravel/dirt driveway towards my house, you will first notice the flowers and bushes alongside the house. Next my large white porch and steps. Thinking of all the feet that will walk upon it makes me smile. Possible generations of my family, bundles of friends. Every season and holiday I will be switching out the decorations in hopes to bring a smile upon a visitor’s face.

Opening the front door you are hit with the scent of a warm incense, candles and essential oils. Hard wood floors below your feet, come inside! My aesthetic for my home is kind of a mix of multiple different ones. Influenced by bohemian and farmhouse. In my entryway/foyer we have a more bohemian styles feel. A bench, shelves, plants, and neutral colors. Ahead is the living room. Again, a more bohemian feel to it. Equipped with plants, pops of colors, neutrals, and different textures. A TV can be found in the room along with a record player in the corner with storage.

Connected to the living room is the kitchen.White cupboards with black trim and a black counter top. The pop of color coming from plants and the back-splash. The pantry is located off the kitchen as well as the washroom. The pantry is full or organized and labeled food. The washroom can be accessed from the outside, a second entrance. The laundry is done here as well as the washing when coming from outside. Off the washroom is the entry to the garage. Here my car(s) will be parked and a mudroom. Here you can store your jackets, shoes, bags.

Back in the house, off the kitchen is the dining room. A bohemian/modern feel to the room. I plan on having a china cabinet in this room filled with figurines, art, and memories. near the living room we have the first bathroom. Again, a bohemian feel to the room, filled with bright colors and neutrals. This is the bathroom my visitors will be using. Continuing down the hall is an office. Here I can do my work regarding my school, career, and editing . The office will have a more modern feel to it, black and whites with plants to brighten up the area. This will double as an art studio. I will have storage for all my art supplies, a collage on the wall, and my art projects on display. The hallways are filled with pictures and art, as well as display shelves.

Across the hall from the office is the master bedroom connected, the master-bath and walk-in closet. The master-bedroom will have a bohemian/miscellaneous feel to it. Next to the bed are bedside tables with plants and memories. On the floor, cozy rugs; Above, a ceiling fan; On the walls, art, posters, and shelves. A TV adjacent to the bed, in the corner a record player. There will be access to the side porch through the master bedroom. Here you can walk into the backyard. I want to keep the walk-in-closet pretty simple and sleek, with neutral colors. The clothes in the closet will be the color it needs to brighten up the space. The master bath will have a walk in shower, and tub as well as double sinks for me and my significant other. And you can’t beat that counter space! A bohemian/sleek vibe. Here is a blueprint I sketched up to roughly see where everything would be located!

Upstairs we have three bedrooms and bath; child, game room, or playroom! Downstairs we have the basement. I want a more country, sleek feel to this space. There’s a bar, kitchenette, living room, play room space, a game space (for pool, ping pong, darts, etc), storage space, an extra bedroom, and a bathroom. Here I will gather and throw many get-togethers with friends and family. I can’t wait to fill this home and space with laughter, and positive memories.

Back upstairs and off the kitchen is where you can access the back porch/deck. Here I will have a fence enclosing a smaller portion of the property. This small yard will have a pool, flowers and bushes lining the house. Here during the summer months, we can gather here with friends and family and enjoy the weather! I have made a pinterest board to organize my ideas on my future home!

Barn & Yard

Another important vision I want in my future is homesteading, raising livestock, and gardening. So of course I need room on my property for these things. My driveway would tear off into two paths, one leading towards my house and one to the barn. A preferably brown, green, yellow or peach colored barn. Here I will at least raise chickens and ducks. But I am open to raising pigs, sheep, goats, and cows too! I also want barn cats since I’m allergic and can’t have them indoors. I will be having dogs and wouldn’t mind having mice, rats, fish, snakes, chameleons, blue tongue skink, and many more! Out in the barn, I will store livestock feed, tools, storage, etc.

In the yard located next to the barn is the vegetable and flower garden. Here I will raise a number of different vegetables, fruits, fungi, herbs, and flowers. Along my garden, a stone wall leading into the forest. I have a whole pinterest board regarding my garden ideas. I want to one day homestead or own my own mobile business. I would sell these veggies, fruits, flowers, and herbs out of a truck or camper. As well as eggs from my ducks and chickens, and milk from cows and goats. I could even plan on selling my art here as well! Alongside the barn will be the chicken coop and chicken run. Next to this will be the pasture for the potential livestock I will be raising. Out in the begging of my property, which is surrounded by trees, sits a freshwater pond. Here on hot summer days my family and animals can cool down! Finally, a good chunk of open space for possible children and animals can run and play. As well as host parties!

Good Energy, Happy Home

The reason I decided to write up this post was to outline and organize my thoughts regarding my future dream home. I can’t wait to start my life in my own space. Even if I don’t get exactly what I want, no matter where I live will be a home. “A house is made of walls and beams; A home is made of love and dreams.” No matter where I end up I know my home will be beautiful. Because it’s my home. I hope one day I am able to write a house tour to my blog or upload a vlog! Here’s to my future home journey!
